Old-Time Music Connects Wales And Appalachia Despite Thousands Of Miles
As part of West Virginia Public Broadcasting, the Inside Appalachia Folkways project focuses on sharing stories from West Virginia. I had the great pleasure of meeting Glynis Board from Inside Appalachia when she was visiting Wales last summer, conducting some investigative fieldwork regarding a documentary program that is planned to be being filmed to highlight the unique cultural connections that exist between Wales and West Virginia.
Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus the project could not take place but is being re-organised for the summer of 2021 instead. To keep the interest and relationships ongoing a series of online interviews are being made with some of the participants.
I played some music and talked with Caitlin Tan at WVPB about my musical experiences when I was visiting West Virginia while living in Virginia at the time, some of my influences, and the connections I feel between the two places.
